OVERVIEW

ABOUT PROJECT GREEN FLEET  Project Green Fleet is a partnership among businesses, government agencies and nonprofit organizations to reduce pollution emitted from Minnesota school buses and to protect children’s health.

More than half of Minnesota’s air pollution is generated by mobile sources, such as cars, trucks and school buses. These pollutants can be harmful to our health - they can contribute to the development of heart and lung disease, and they can be especially problematic for the children who ride school buses everyday. Recent studies reveal that pollution levels inside school buses can be up to five times higher than outdoor air.

Project Green Fleet helps school districts and other school bus operators reduce diesel emissions by installing pollution-control equipment on Minnesota school buses at no cost to participating school districts or school bus fleets. By installing diesel retrofit equipment on school buses, we can reduce pollution generated from the bus up to 50 percent and dramatically reduce the level of pollution inside the bus. Thanks to funding provided by our sponsors, Project Green Fleet has already retrofitted more than 500 buses and expects to more than double that by the end of 2008.

Project Green Fleet is managed by Clean Air Minnesota, a program of the Minnesota Environmental Initiative. To learn more, go to www.mn-ei.org.
